Spreading significance of 2025 Ban Flower Festival

ĐBP - The Ban (Bauhinia) Flower Festival is a signature cultural event of Điện Biên province, held annually in March to honor the beauty of the Northwestern region’s iconic flower while promoting local tourism and culture.

This year, teachers and students from educational institutions in Điện Biên Phủ city have actively prepared performances, art programs, and exhibition booths to contribute to the success of the event.

Taking advantage of the cool morning weather, teachers and students of Him Lam Secondary School gathered early to practice for the street parade leading up to the 2025 Ban Flower Festival. The school has mobilized about 200 students to participate in this activity. Though they had only been training for two days, their disciplined practice allowed them to march in unison. Besides participating in the parade, students not directly involved in the festival engaged in experiential learning and report writing, integrating theoretical knowledge with real-life cultural experiences.

Principal Cao Thị Đại shared: “To contribute to the 2025 Ban Flower Festival, Him Lam Secondary School is participating in four activities: setting up a booth to showcase Điện Biên-branded products, taking part in the parade, performing artistic pieces, and organizing experiential learning activities. While over 50 students perform in cultural programs and about 200 students join the parade, those not directly involved will document their experiences through reports. This approach bridges theory and practice, fostering a deeper connection between school and community while promoting local culture and tourism.”

This festive spirit extends to Bế Văn Đàn Primary School, where 160 students and teachers will join the parade. Additionally, the school has set up a camp at the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Monument, serving as a rest stop for visitors while exhibiting local cultural, agricultural, and culinary specialties.

Educational institutions set up booths featuring local specialties, offering a cultural stop for visitors.

Principal Đinh Thị Thanh Nhàn noted: “Upon being assigned activities for the 2025 Ban Flower Festival by the city’s Department of Education and Training, our school widely promoted the event among teachers and students. Our booth showcases local cultural products and agricultural specialties, while also offering a rest area where visitors can enjoy Điện Biên’s signature dishes.”

Similarly, Tà Cáng Kindergarten in Nà Tấu commune has been busy preparing for the festival. Teachers guided children in creating decorative items inspired by the ban flower while practicing traditional performances to be showcased at the school’s designated rest stop.

Vibrant performances highlight the essence of the 2025 Ban Flower Festival.

Principal Nguyễn Thị Linh explained: “Our school places great emphasis on introducing local culture to young learners. We have engaged students in various activities, from crafting flower-themed decorations to setting up a booth featuring Điện Biên’s traditional products. Both teachers and students are eagerly anticipating their participation in this festival.”

To enhance the festival’s appeal, the Education and Training Sub-Department of Điện Biên Phủ city has actively advised local authorities on mobilizing teachers and students for participation. More than 2,000 students from various schools will march along 7/5 Street, forming 15 parade groups. Notably, middle school students will dress as “Khum Princes” and “Ban Maidens,” while primary school children will embody “Little Ban Flower Blossoms.” The parade will also feature a lion dance troupe, adding vibrancy to the event.

Local specialties are displayed at exhibition booths.

Additionally, schools across the city will design 50 exhibition booths along 7/5 Street, Võ Thị Sáu Park, and the path to the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Monument. These booths will showcase local tourism products and agricultural specialties. The festival will also feature cultural exchange performances and a unique “Ban Flower Teacher” fashion show, highlighting traditional attire and the symbolic beauty of the ban flower.

Lê Thị Hồng, Head of the Education and Training Sub-Department of Điện Biên Phủ city, emphasized: “Through these activities, students not only engage with traditional culture but also develop creativity and communication skills. Teachers and students alike participate enthusiastically, proud to contribute to promoting local culture and tourism. We hope that each year, more students will take part in the festival, deepening their understanding of their homeland’s cultural values.”

Students eagerly participate in various festival activities.

The Ban Flower Festival is not just a cultural event but also an opportunity for Điện Biên Phủ city’s education sector to integrate heritage education into its curriculum. With the dedication of teachers and the enthusiasm of students, the festival ensures that Điện Biên’s rich cultural heritage will be preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
